The Idea of visiting Levi ski resort was postponed for a very long time due to the distance and rather high cost of the trip. However, looking ahead, I have to admit that having spent an amount comparable to a vacation in Switzerland on a trip to Finnish Lapland and I did not regret it at all.
For a half century of the existence of the Levi resort, the owners have managed to turn simple ski slopes into a high-class entertainment cluster for every taste and budget.
Sometimes it seemed that the service personnel of this northern giant were forbidden to tell to customers the phrase: “Sorry, this is impossible.”
“- How about going downhill skiing? – OK, we have 48 slopes …Hmm, maybe after skiing in the spa? – No problems …
– I want a night dog sledding safari, change dogs for deer on the way back, and then chat with a Lappish shaman, is it possible? – Of course, come …
– Until midnight I want to sleep in the “ice” hotel, and the rest of the night to admire the northern lights in an igloo with a transparent roof – Yes, we have booked everything for you … “
This impeccable service of tourists originated to the distant 70s of the last century, when the construction of the first cottages began in Levi. An additional impulse for development was given by the opening of the Kittilä airport in 1982, which began to receive dozens of flights every day (in season) from most big cities in Europe, America and Asia.
For 30 years, the resort has been actively developing, absorbing large financial investments and, at the same time, bringing stable dividends to its owners. In 2018 Levi was one of the largest and most popular ski resorts in Finland.
Levi is stylized as a Swiss village, which looks very good in comparison with the “block” buildings of the neighboring ski resort Ylläs (60 km.).
Narrow streets and a limit on the number of floors in buildings create a feeling of comfort, and an irresistible desire to get lost in this labyrinth of buildings. In Levi’s center is a lot of restaurants, pubs, clubs and shops.
Entering to this “money” path, be prepared that the price level to be 30-50% higher than in Rovaniemi, for example. The village is located at the foot of the Levitunturi hill, and therefore the slopes are partly within walking distance from hotels and apart-hotels.
I would also like to note that there are a lot of young people in Levi, in addition to the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes, the guys create a positive attitude and support the “fire” of the ongoing nightlife in Levi 🙂
