Outokumpu located on the border of the Savo and Finnish North Karelia regions. The number of inhabitants – 7,000 people, provokes to call it a village, but the locals proudly call Outokumpu a town, and, probably, you should not hurt their pride. 🙂
The museum complex “Old Mine” (Vanha Kaivos) and the highest mine headframe in Europe are the main attractions of the municipality…
In the restored Museum Tunnel (Museotunneli), tourists on their own or with a guide can get know about the history of the complex and feel the spirit of the mining life.
The temperature in the mine is cold – about 10 Celsius degrees, which adds realism and vivid impressions from a short walk (just over 200 meters).
In the tunnel, thematic exhibitions are periodically held, bringing a pleasant variety to the brutal exposition – numerous loaders, tractors, trolleys and other miner’s machines.
The mine is illuminated by bright light spots that give this strict utilitarian picture fabulous and rich shades.
I was pleased to visit Museotunneli, highly recommended for technogenic attractions fans 🙂
